I've played fantasy football for many years and I really like how this book is laid out. The team-by-team analysis is more extensive than what I'm accustomed to seeing, and the ranking section was very handy. I especially liked the rookies-only section, as it's often difficult to find good enough rookie information to support dynasty-style leagues.I disagree with the prior review regarding explanations. In fact, there are a lot of little nuggets comparing players and explaining relative rankings. Here's an excerpt on the aforementioned Garcon vs. Evans question: "Pierre Garcon was on track to have another stellar year until injury cut his season short. He offers the similar fantasy Opportunity Rank as Tampa's more famous WR Mike Evans. Trust me, if you have a choice between drafting Mike Evans in the 2nd round or grabbing Garcon in round 6 or 7, take the latter."That's the kind of stuff I need heading into my draft, to maximize value across positions and to form my recovery strategies for when my preferred selection is taken the pick before I'm on the clock.
The 2018 Almanac and Draft Guide is so much better than other reads. Thank you!For years I’ve complied my own rankings using various sources of research. I had my own algorithm of ranking players based on those sources, my leagues prior year scoring & current year projection. I’d dump my research into multiple xls sheet by player with a “score†then display them on a single sheet in order of my score, much like their overall ranking Then I'd go to the local newsstand to purchase a copy of the other guy’s product – Fantasy Football Index just to have their cheat sheet knowing 8 out of 12 in my league would have their copy in hand on draft day.Then I found Sean's Fantasy Football Almanac and Draft Guide so I figured it I’d give it a try and add it to my evaluation. After reading it cover to cover it i decided they have the best product out there. I had already purchased this year’s FFI and after sifting through ads, editor mailbag nonsense, get to the grit, which is minimal in comparison to Sean's research and analysis. Frankly I was a bit torn about writing this review because I don't want the other players in my league benefiting from Sean's research like I will. Keep up the good work.Lastly, on page 145 you offer updated rankings throughout the offseason. Can you please send me your most recent rankings ahead of next week’s start?
I used to write my own Excel programs back in 1992, so I appreciate the work that Sean has dedicated to his inaugural fantasy football draft guide! There are MULTIPLE sets of statistics to combine. 136 pages of team information, fantasy rankings by position and overall rankings for standard and ppr. The BEST part is his breakdown by tiers. Now, he does more than just draw lines and create tiers; he writes what you should be looking for position wise during your draft for each tier. Emailed updates to the magazine throughout the summer (I just read the latest one yesterday!) The list goes on...do yourself a favor and buy this one!
Very deep draft guide and brings several new stats to the table such as opportunity by position. I hope there is a follow up.
This book delivers on its promise. It is part almanac, part fantasy strategy guide and very thorough. They do a great job of summarizing 2017 from a fantasy perspective. The compilation of 2018 offseason changes and 2018 fantasy projections was well done in my opinion. The coaching system analysis and player opportunity metrics were very intriguing. I’ve never seen anything like it, but based on the methods described in the book, I think it has a ton of potential. I play in multiple leagues, so I test this book out and use this draft guide exclusively in a few of them.
I used this almanac to pick my team on Yahoo. As a new Fantasy Football player, it was nice to have a step-by-step methodology for constructing my team round-by-round. My first draft went well since I had some confidence in what I was doing. It was also nice that the author (Sean) releases updates to the recommendations based on the events of the pre-season. Thanks!
Excellent fantasy football guide. Book is organized and easy to read. Love how he wrote the draft strategy right in the tier ranking system. Besides being a great read, the author really does live up to his word about providing updated rankings and customer service. Responded to an email immediately with a personal response. Pretty incredible.
I’m giving him 5 stars just for his commitment alone he does all the research I used to do that I don’t have time to do anymore. I’m a little skeptical of SOME of his advice (Watson #1 overall QB) but other than that, everything looks great. It’s obvious he really cares about his book. He sends out weekly updates based on things that happen during the pre-season. I recommend.
