There's some great ideas, HOWEVER, you need to invest in a certain 62 peg straight knitting loom to make the dishcloths. I just decided I could do better with my own designs over this book. I would rather use what I have already instead of investing more money into more looms. Along the same option is to get out the knitting needles and crochet hooks and go at it. Done.If I already had the loom, it would have been great. The patterns are designed for smaller gauge yarn types. much like the kind of yarn you would have left from infant/toddler clothing projects. I was hoping to use up yarn scraps for the projects. I may revisit obtaining this book again. I don't know. I get bored and like to tackle new projects.
This booklet gives instructions, pictures, diagrams and bonus videos. There are 13 patterns and instructions given for loom knitting, needle knitting, and Knook® (I have no idea what that is). Each page includes name of pattern, finished size, shopping list, gauge information, instructions for all 3 methods of knitting, a picture of the pattern, and a diagram to follow. All patterns are indicated as "easy". I loom knit, so I would use the long loom with 62 pegs.On page 31, "General Instructions" include Abbreviations, Symbols & Terms, and Gauge. Informative charts are also listed for U.S. and International for Terminology for Knit/Knook, Skill type, Yarn weight symbol and Names with Type of Yarns in Category and Knit Gauge Range In Stockinette stitch and with Advised Needle Size Range. Another chart on this same page is for Knooks in U.S. and Metric. The last chart on this page is for Knitting Needles in U.S., U.K., and Metric. On page 32 you can find an explanation for the Charts as well as a few short paragraphs about the Author.On page 32 (last page) I "Yarn Information" detailing colors used for each pattern and specific brand of yarn used.Leisure Arts includes a website as a Bonus to watch technique videos for all 3 forms of knitting.I have not knitted any of the patterns yet, but looking through the book, I do not see any problems in following the patterns.
Loom Knit Dishcloths by Kathy Norris is a beautifully written and designed book. It includes 13 unique patterns with instructions fully written, step-by-step directions for loom knitters, and as a bonus, for needle knitting and knook as well. The patterns are clearly presented in an easily readable format. A complete shopping list is included, for each of the three crafts. In addition, there is a full color chart for each of the patterns. Unlike most pattern charts, these are large enough to see, and color coded. If you've never worked with a chart, this book is a perfect way to try them out, since you have both the written pattern and the large chart to work from.The stitch patterns themselves are a great addition to any loom knitter's library, and include a delicate chevron, dot stitch, double broken rib, elongated rib check, garter basket weave, Swedish block, and pique, among others. In addition, there is a well written guide at the back of the book with abbreviations, symbols, guide to yarn weights, gauge, and charts. On the back of the book, Leisure Arts says they have also created bonus videos to go with the book.I highly recommend this great book by Kathy Norris.
This book is a must have for anyone that uses the knook, loom, and/or pair of knitting needles. I was able to tackle all the projects in this book in a months time using my needles.The cloths patterns are easy to understand and follow from start to finish with written word instructions as well as a graph chart for each.The full color photos are excellent in showing you just exactly how the cloths should look when completed.I've gone through this book once and I will certainly do so again. The cloths are generous in size making the completed work perfect for gifting and otherwise.I highly recommend this book as a must have for your own personal collection.
This is a great concept however the author gives poor instructions on how to start the projects with a waste yarn. Pictures would be a big help. I had to watch a u-tube video by Denise Canela to learn how to do this. Very confusing, otherwise a good book.
The patterns are very pretty and can be used in many different applications! The directions are provided in several different ways so that you can find the way that works best for you - I prefer the chart! The only odd thing for me so far is that my finished products have been a much different size than what it says it will be.
Decent book, If I'd known the size I probably would not have bought it. Seems more like a large pamphlet. It is a good buy though and I'm happy. I look forward to making lots of these haha.
