As a new PA-C working in the urgent care, this book has come in handy countless times for a quick refresher on procedures and treatments. I have found it particularly handy when pulling out fish hooks, treating cat bites where I was concerned about rabies exposure, puncture wounds, bee stings, eye issues, joint reductions. It has a vast array of topics that are frequent in the urgent care arena.
I originally purchased the 2nd edition of this when I started residency. As soon as I saw the 3rd edition was out, I immediately preordered it.The biggest obstacle of the 2nd edition, lack of mobile access, has been resolved with the expert consult online access. Now, you can login to the website anywhere you are (Urgent Care Clinic, ER, Denny's at 3am), and look up how to treat a dislocated contact lens or bleeding after dental surgery.This book has many pearls for topics that you will not find in any other major emergency textbook. It is well worth the investment for any primary care or emergency medicine library, ESPECIALLY since you can now access it online and not have to lug it three miles uphill in your backpack on your fixie (or is that just me).I have not done a thorough search, but so far it seems that some of the out-of-date references and advice have been updated with new literature support and I have not found one glaring error yet. Lastly, the cover picture is priceless, and has not changed throughout the editions. I have had the patient who had a bug fly in their ear, came into the ED, and the only treatment that was necessary was to tell them to take their hand off their ear so the bug could fly out.Thanks, Dr. Buttaravoli!!!
Well written, bulleted for convenience, sections divided into overviews with sub sections of what to do and what not to do plus pearls. Geared toward those working in FastTrack or Urgent Care settings. As a new urgent care PA, it definitely comes in handy on a daily basis. Love the ability to download to my Inkling app and make notes/highlight sections for faster reference.
I am a new FNP-C working in Urgent Care. I am reading this book, recommended to me by other NPs, before I start my new position. This book is concise and informative. Love that it contains videos because I am a visual learner. Only problem was the video on epistaxis management was unable to continue playing in the middle of his teaching. I try playing it again and it did the samething; otherwise I will recommend this book for the novice practitioner.
New to Urgent Care after years as FP - great review, procedures nicely done - easy to follow. Nearly any problem likely to be encountered is included with a clinicial synopsis and very specific recommendations for treatment (dosing, alternatives etc) and references. Will keep with me at all times!
I really like the layout and functionality of this book. It obviously can't cover every scenario and case in Emergency care but it is useful for the professional and student alike. Good buy.
The authors are clear and concise regarding diagnosis and treatment. Organized and easy to find what you want. Great for the clinical setting, though I a currently studying through it page by page at home. I am a recent graduate. Although his references are sometimes outdated, the material matches current resources (such as "uptodate"). Book offers free access to videos showing procedures. The videos were helpful but poor quality (camera unsteady, which made me nauseated). I would recommend this book to beginner emergency professionals.
I bought this book because I had to for a class. It was actually entertaining and fun to read.
