About the Author
Gary Troia was born in southeast London and studied Spanish and Philosophy at Middlesex University and the Universidad de Deusto. In 2010, he left behind a career in education and moved to a small Spanish village, where he began his lifelong dream of writing. His first book, Spanish Yarns and Beyond, is a humorous account of his time in Spain. 'A great play on words, witty and well written,' was how one reviewer described the book. A Bricklayer's Tales, published in 2013, is a collection of ten tales, including: Angel Dust, the peculiar story of a man whose new life in America leads to conversations with Ancient Greek philosophers. Mrs. McClintock, an absurd farce in which a Glaswegian couple retire to Spain, and A Bricklayer's Tale, the story of a disillusioned, alcoholic bricklayer.Since then Gary has gone on to write seven books.Gary now lives in Hampshire, with his partner Marina where he continues to write.

Thoroughly enjoyed this well written insightful account of a reluctant cruisers first voyage. Not a book of tips and tricks, but thoughtful observations of a journey. If your thinking of going on a cruise, read the tips and tricks books, but read this for the feeling thinking persons observation of cruising, not a how to, but a how does it feelMost enjoyable.
I really enjoyed this cruise, on paper. He brought me along as I felt like I was on the ship ( except for all of the drinks, ha! We traveled on Cunard transatlantic Queen Mary 2 , what a wonderful ship and wonderful trip , I love cruising and especiallyTransatlantic. I too felt very relaxed at the end of the trip.Thanks for a great book.
Having read Through the Porthole I felt I too would love to spend my life cruising. Well written and most interesting. A glimpse of a world so remote from our humdrum lives.
